POETS ON MASS INCARCERATION

My first book, Tracing the Horse, explores intimate narratives of addiction, family, and personal transformation against the backdrop of my Southern California upbringing, capturing how poetry became a powerful tool for reclaiming identity and agency. Building upon these personal explorations, I went on to edit the anthology Like a Hammer: Poets on Mass Incarceration, which gathers a diverse array of voices to collectively confront and illuminate the profound impacts of the carceral system. While Tracing the Horse delves deeply into individual experiences of confinement and liberation, Like a Hammer expands that inquiry to societal dimensions, underscoring poetry's essential role in challenging systemic injustice and fostering dialogue around freedom and humanity.
